- Welcome to Hamtest v1.1!
-
- Hamtest was originally written to help me in studying for the Technician Class
- exam. After I passed the exam (and began my weeks of waiting for my ticket)
- I decided that I should let others benefit from my program. So I started to
- cleaned up the program and added some features that others might find useful.
-
- I had intentions of adding the General Class exam questions to the program,
- but didn't finally get around to it until Dan Kolton of Bellevue, Washington
- send me a letter requesting I do so. Thus we now have HamTest v1.1. Thanks
- Dan for giving me that little push I needed. Now maybe I can start studying
- for the General Class myself!!!
-
- You will notice in the program that when you answer a question wrong it will
- give you the reference to the FCC Rules and Regulations Part 97, if there is
- any. The page references refer to the book "Now You're Talking" published by
- the ARRL and available in any Ham Radio Store or Radio Shack. This is the
- book I used in studying for the exam.
-
- There is no charge for using Hamtest. Feel free to pass the program on to
- others, but when doing so please include ALL the files that came with the
- program.
-
- If you have any comments or suggestions about Hamtest or just want to say
- 'Thanks', send me a postcard or drop me some Email. I can be reached at...

- Program Notes...
-
- Pressing ESC while at a menu will take you back one menu level. If you
- are at the Main Menu pressing ESC will exit the program.
-
- Pressing a key that corresponds to the first letter/number of a menu choice
- will move the highlight bar to that menu choice. Press Enter to select
- that item.
-
- While going though the questions there will be a right and wrong buzzer.
- To turn the buzzer OFF and ON hit S when being prompted for an answer.
-
- Pressing ESCape while viewing questions will have the same effect as
- hitting the Q key.
-
-
- Main Menu:
-
- From the main menu you can choose to work with the Novice or Technician
- exam questions or Quit the program.
-
-
- Second Menu:
-
- ALL SUBELEMENTS
-
- This menu choice will allow you to go through ALL the questions
- for the subelement you choose. If you decide to exit before you finish
- cycling through all the questions you will be prompted to set a 'marker'
- to save your place. When setting a marker the program will promptly
- terminate. The next time you start Hamtest you will be taken back to
- the place you set a marker. If no marker is set, you will be taken back
- to the Main Menu.
-
- INDIVIDUAL SUBELEMENT
-
- This menu choice will allow you to pick a particular subelement that
- you want to test yourself on. You will be presented with the subelement
- choices. When you exit this part of the program you will be taken back
- to the Main Menu.
-
- PRACTICE EXAM
-
- This menu choice will randomly pick questions from the question pools
- to simulate a real exam.
-
- CRAM SCAN MODE
-
- This is a feature that should be of help just before a test. It allows
- you to cycle through ALL the questions in a question pool while
- highlighting the correct answer for you.
-
- MAIN MENU
-
- This one is pretty much self explanatory. eh?
-
-
- Third menu:
-
- The third menu will appear when you select the Individual Subelements
- choice from the second menu. Here you can choose which subelement you
- wish to review. Pressing ESC or selecting Cancel will exit you back to
- the second menu.
-
-
- Status Bar:
-
- While view the questions and being prompted for an answer you will notice
- a status bar at the top of the screen. This bar, from left to right,
- tells you which question number you are viewing, which question pool you
- are in (Novice or Technician), the current question number and total
- number of questions and the percentage of questions you have answered
- correct.
-
- A couple more things!...
-
- Some questions reference figure drawings in order to be answered.
- Hamtest does not support the displaying of these figures. However, I
- have included the figures in .TIF file format. If you cannot make use
- of the .TIF format you will also find these figures in the book
- mentioned earlier, "Now You're Talking!" published by the ARRL.
-
- Some questions in the question pools have been withdrawn from testing.
- The few I know about have been marked as such, but are still displayed
- for completeness.
-
- Enjoy!
